This Time Its All About the Fans

In yet another heated game of intense passion and bonehead plays anger prevails.  Joakim Noah while in a rage had some particularly colorful words for a fan that will cost him a $50,000 fine.  Now keep in mind, it was just a couple months ago that Kobe Bryant was fined $100,000 dollars for using the exact same gay slur while speaking to himself.  So what is the message the NBA is trying to purvey here? Is it better to talk about others than it is to talk about yourself? Is  love of self really the greatest love of all? Is it better to put a dime in the bank than it is to give a homeless man a dollar? I don't know, and personally I don't care, but I bet David Stern is starting to rethink having cameras, and microphones so close to players who go through a wave of emotions at any given time in a  46 minute period.

But What is a Word

$100,000.
$100,000.

I can't say I never thought i'd see the day, because I did. It is my humble opinion that David Stern WILL NOT REST until the NBA is all pillow taps and curtsies. The NBA is changing, its a family league, the new friendly league where any utterance of anger or malice is met with swift retribution. So, when Kobe Bryant walked over to his bench, slammed his towel down, screamed for a teammate, waited for Bennie Adams to walk by again and screamed out "f***in f**got" I knew he was going to catch a hefty....oh, wait, he never said it to the ref. UMMM welcome to the new NBA Kobert.

The sensitivity of the NBA is indictive of the sensitivity of America. I can't be soley angry with David Stern.  We as a people are so scared to offend, subjugate or upset anyone, of anything different. We smuther all questionable happenings. We find a sick pseudo-solace in the belief that punishing anothers faults cleanses our own sins.  Homophobia is a problem amongst America's straight males.  We are on the outside, looking into a lifestyle we don't completey understand.  Until there is a dialogue between gay and straight communities, we will continually over and under react. If the NBA really wanted to show the gay and lesbian community it cared, the association would sponser events and openly accept "in the closet" players (oh yeah there out there.) Unfortunately, most people don't want an answer to the problem, most people want a quick fix to make them feel ok.  History teaches us that when scared people congregate, bad things happen.  So Kobe, Dwayne, Lebron, watch out, because no matter how many kids you hug, no matter how many tickets you sell, your tar and feather moment is coming. We as Americans will always need a scapegoat, because we are too afraid to look in the mirror.
